Many new recorders don't have the two 'holes" on top for my recording device.I hope they never stop making it. I've been using this product for a good 20 years.the first one I had lasted 7 years and I've periodically replaced them as the motor dies. I continue to buy it because it works with my "old fashion" phone recording devices (I'm a writer and need to tape interviews).
Tried various distances from my lips, different volume settings. I bought this to replace an earlier Olympus recorder which had worked fairly well. Save your money. All options very poor. This unit is more difficult to work the controls, and has awful voice playback. The sound is not clear or crisp and it is difficult to understand.
(Oh, come on. If I'm in the midst of a creative project at the office, I've also used the recorder to "talk out" specific wording for a brochure or ad. I never have to fumble around to find the record button; in fact, after using it in the house for half an hour the day I received it, I never even have to look. You know that's when the most marvelous concept or the perfect word or phrase comes to you). Yay. This microcassette recorder does just what I need it to do - records my thoughts when I am not in a position to write them down immediately.
The set up on this recorder really fits the bill for me. If it's a big project, I might even lay the recorder next to me in bed, in case I have a Really Good Idea just before I fall asleep. For me, this most often translates to "when I'm driving". I use this recorder most often on my way to work to help me organize ideas for meetings, to remind myself of appointments I want to set up or phone calls I need to make. :-)To sum up: Easy to learn, simple to use; good price; recommended. And if I'm going to be using it in the car, it has to be VERY simple so that operating it doesn't take my eyes or my mind off the road.
I just reach over, press, talk.
After trying 3 different sets of batteries, the sound remained the same. Needless to say, I am very disappointed that this recorder has lasted for only 2 months.
This time, however, I will be sure to obtain some kind of back up warranty or replacement plan along with my purchase. Consequently, I am now forced to make another purchase--something I had no intentions of having to do.
I purchased this item quite recently, and although the sound has never been what I'd call "perfect", I felt it was an adequate recorder for the price I paid. After shipping and handling, this would have cost me more than the price of the item itself.
I do hope other people have better luck with this recorder. However, after using this device for only 2 short months, I played the tape back one day only to find that the sound was completely garbled and distorted.
I contacted the company hoping they would be able to offer some help and advice, but all they did was suggest that I send the item to their facility for servicing.
I wanted a recorder that is not complicated and does the job- this one does and I am happy with it.
